An Old Threat
When I was in college, my professors and T.A.s frequently threatened to answer a student's cell phone if it went off in class. I can't recall any instances of the threat being carried out. However, I have had a number of chances to do the same thing. If someone is using their cell phone in class, I confiscate it until the end of class. Occasionally, it will start ringing, and of course I answer it. I attempt to inform the caller that ________'s phone was confiscated because he or she was using it in class. I'm not sure that I ever break past the language barrier, but it's worth it for the look of humiliation on ________'s face. Ha!

I had a TA who did that my freshman year. She had a very pleasant conversation with ____'s dad. After the dad realized it was the TA he started asking her how his son was doing in class.
