This question came to mind today when one of my students asked me, "Teacher, what is your blood type?" I responded, truthfully, that I couldn't remember. The kids were surprised by this. What was even more surprising is that one student opined, "I think you are either A or O." I asked what made her think this, and she replied "the way your face looks."
This whole thing left me rather puzzled, so I did some research. It turns out that, according to Wikipedia, in Japanese culture blood types correspond to different personality types. This would appear to be the case in Korea as well, judging by the Korean film My Boyfriend is Type B.
Look at the list below. What do you think my blood type is? If you have access to my personal medical history, no cheating (Dad).
*Answer to be revealed when I remember.*
| Type A | |
|---|---|
| Best traits | Earnest, creative, sensible |
| Worst traits | Fastidious, overearnest |
| Type B | |
| Best traits | Wild, active, doer |
| Worst traits | Selfish, irresponsible |
| Type AB | |
| Best traits | Cool, controlled, rational |
| Worst traits | Critical, indecisive |
| Type O | |
| Best traits | Agreeable, sociable, optimistic |
| Worst traits | Vain, rude |

Ridiculous.
Clearly type B stands for all that is good and decent in humanity.
Oh, I was supposed to guess your blood type? Sorry, I blew it off because it didn't concern me.
Until you need a transfusion . . . good luck with that after your little comment!
