Yesterday, was teaching my highest-level class, which as you would expect includes some rather clever children. Our lesson was on the evolution of the concept of a "hero," and we started with a reading on mythical Greek figures. To make sure they understood, I asked them what the Greeks considered to be the measure of a hero. One GIRL answered, "Removing heads brutally from the neck."
As being a great warrior was indeed an important quality in Greek mythology, and decaptitation was likely a part of being a great warrior, I praised her for her response.

By that measure Robespierre was a great hero.
Yeah but the guillotine was a fairly clean death . . . is that really "brutally" removing the head from the neck?
