On Monday an alarming number of children in my class failed the review test. As there was no detention that day, and as the subject of the lesson was Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., I assigned all the kids who failed the test an extra assignment in which they had to write ten sentences about Rosa Parks (the civil rights leader, not the excellent Outkast song of the same name).
Yesterday, one of the staff members came to me with a problem. Apparently one of the students' mothers called and asked where "Rose Park" is.
Note: this kid's nickname appears on this list.
