Coffee

It may come as no surprise to my fellow Washingtonians that the coffee in Daejeon is not up to Seattle standards. Don't get me wrong, it's fantastic compared to the swill served up in Las Vegas, which is apparently brewed by combining Folgers' crystals with Satan's urine. But I do find myself wishing for a white chocolate mocha from Starbucks in University Village.

The general problem seems to be balance. One day, you'll get a mocha that is remarkably bitter and has only the faintest taste of chocolate. The next, you'll get something more akin to hot cocoa - and this is all from the same shop! The efficiency is also somewhat lacking. Our espresso drinks can take 5-10 minutes. In Seattle, if the customer does not have his or her coffee within 2 minutes, they are considered well within their rights to burn the establishment to the ground.

All in all, I definitely have learned to appreciate the fare we receive from Starbucks and Seattle's Best . . . but Tully's can still go straight to hell.
